Cycling: Dowsett quits Sky for Spaniards

Alex Dowsett, the two-time British time-trial champion, is leaving Team Sky to ride for the Spanish outfit Movistar next season.

The Essex-born rider joined Sky as a neo-pro from Lance Armstrong's Trek-Livestrong under-23 development team in 2010 but, after a promising first season, has spent much of this year plagued by injuries.

Dowsett, who achieved at credible eighth place at the 2012 World Championships, is said to have turned down Sky's offer of an extension to his current contract. "This isn't a decision I have taken lightly," he said. "I was flattered that they wanted me to stay but I have a new opportunity and a new chapter of my career.
