EILIDH CHILD finished only sixth in her season debut over 400m hurdles at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava last night.
The European champion, who delayed the start of her summer campaign due to a hip injury, ran a time of 56:56 seconds as her long-time Czech rival Zuzana Hejnova claimed victory.
Guy Learmonth was fifth in the 600m in a personal best of 1:17:03 but despite finishing adrift of Poland's Adam Kszszot in a sprint for the line - with David Rudisha pulling up injured - the Scot believes he has taken major steps forward.
"I need to keep the races coming now as I'm starting to build some momentum," he said. "The weather was horrific too so that didn't help. My legs died on me over the last 10m but things will start clicking together now with some speed work coming in training over the next few weeks.
"I genuinely thought I was going to take the win coming down the home straight but my legs seized up before the line. But it'll come."
Elsewhere, Usain Bolt won the 200m in 20.13 seconds.
