EuroLeague Hockey: Glynhill Kelburne 1 Rot-Weiss Koln (Germany) 8

The Scottish champions lost heavily to their German opponents in the opening pool match of the EuroLeague at East Grinstead yesterday, and, as anticipated, their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages will depend upon them finishing second in the three-team pool by beating AHTC Wien, the Austrian champions today.

The Paisley side fell behind in six minutes to Arnau Becuwe's low shot, but had a chance to equalise only for Alan Forsyth's ball into the circle to elude Ben Peterson. The Germans piled on the pressure and made it 3-0 through goals by Marco Miltkau and Jan-Marco Montag, Mark Ralph denied them with a brilliant goal-line stop and, when his initial strike from an overtime penalty corner, was charged down, the ball fell to Michael Bremner who beat two defenders and teed up Peterson to fire home. Kelburne conceded second-half goals to Montag (2), Miltkau, Christopher Zeller and Alexander Schollkopf.

n Chris Wilson, Grove Menzieshill's new coach, has made an impressive start to the Aberdeen Asset Management National League campaign, his charges having won their first three matches and scored 15 goals in the process. They face their toughest test so far today when they entertain Grange, last season's runners-up who are also unbeaten.
