Hannah Miley eager to test water in Edinburgh

Hannah Miley, a medal hope for London 2012, defends the 400m individual medley in the Scottish Gas National Open Championships in Edinburgh today, writes Elspeth Burnside.

Just over four weeks before the London Olympics, the 22-year-old from Inverurie is the only one of the six Scots in Team GB who has decided to compete in the capital. "I love swimming in Scotland and it is great to get a first chance to race in the pool since it was refurbished," said Miley.

For those Scots who missed out on London 2012, it will be a chance to start concentrating on another major date: the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. Lucy Ellis, who won the 400m freestyle at last week's British Gas ASA National Championships, and her Stirling training mate, Jak Scott, who swam for GB in last year's World Championships in Shanghai, will be bidding for multiple titles. Warrender's Lewis Smith, Edinburgh University's Kathryn Johstone and Corrie Scott are also in the line-up.Also in action will be three Scots from the GB Parlaympics squad; Craig Rodgie, Jim Anderson and Andrew Mullen.
