Holmes provides strong foundation

Lochwinnoch's Andrew Holmes helped Great Britain men's fours to bronze at the World Under-23 Championships in Lithuania, writes Roddy Mackenzie.

Holmes, a 2009 world junior champion, and English team-mates George Rossiter, Patrick Lapage and Michael Evans held off the US in a sprint finish, with Germany taking gold and Australia silver. Iona Riley from Aberdeen and Glasgow's Claire McKeown, who rows for Clydesdale ARC, finished a close fourth in the women's eight after being caught just before the line by the Dutch and German crews.
