Despite all manner of setbacks, including being punted into a pit-lane spin in the early stages by EJ Viso, the 39-year-old driver from Bathgate transcended adversity and afterwards dedicated his success to his late friend, Dan Wheldon, who perished in a horrific accident in Las Vegas last season.
