Katie Archibald and Callum Skinner will arrive home from the 2014 UEC European Track Championships in Guadeloupe later this afternoon as gold medallists.

Archibald, who helped the British women's side successfully defend their European team pursuit title last week, went on to claim gold in the 3km individual pursuit on Sunday evening.

The 20-year-old from Milngavie has spoken in recent days of the challenges posed by competing on the open-air, 333m outdoor concrete track, describing it as a "proper humpty dumpty to ride on which looks quite comical".

To have seen her blistering ride, however, you wouldn't have known it. Archibald shaved seven seconds off her qualifying time, posting 3:40.136 to claim victory by a margin of two seconds over Mieke Kroger of Germany. Vilija Sereikaite, of Lithuania, beat Eugenia Bujak, of Poland, to get bronze.

Skinner, meanwhile, is the new European men's kilometre time trial champion.

The 22-year-old, who was born in Glasgow and grew up in Edinburgh, clocked 1:02.399 to take the title with victory over Germany's Joachim Eilers.

The Scots duo helped bring Britain's final medal tally to eight: six gold, one silver and one bronze. The event, staged in the French colony in the Caribbean, provided competitors with their first chance to score Olympic qualification points for Rio 2016.

Skinner has enjoyed a stellar month, having won a clean sweep of four golds at the 2014 British National Track Championships. Also at that meeting, Archibald secured the British women's individual pursuit title.
