European Indoor Pentathlon gold medallist Katarina Johnson-Thompson has withdrawn from the combined events Hypo-Meeting in Austria on 30-31 May.

Following her European Indoor title win in Prague in early March, Johnson-Thompson suffered a knee injury which impacted on her training programme for March and April. Whilst her progress in recovering enabled her to compete in Manchester last weekend, she is not sufficiently prepared to undertake a heptathlon at the end of the month.

"Some good conditioning work has been possible, but it is only recently that Katarina has returned to relatively light track work, which was sufficient to enable her to compete on Saturday," said her coach Mike Holmes.

"However, much of the preparation necessary to compete effectively across all events for the heptathlon in the Gotzis Hypo-Meeting, at the end of May, has been lost.

"It is now possible to start back and progress steadily to full training to catch up and prepare for later in the summer; with the World Championships heptathlon in Beijing, starting on 22nd August, very much in mind."

The event had been expected to pit Johnson-Thompson up against Jessica Ennis-Hill for the first time since she took two years out of the sport to have her first child, but the Olympic champion's coach Tony Minnichiello indicated earlier this week that she too is far from certain to compete.
