I went from being a typical little girl riding ponies, doing ballet and going fishing with my grandad in Plymouth to all of those activities being dropped and swimming becoming much more important. I don't remember there being an epiphany as such, but I think all athletes have a moment where we see someone else achieve what we would like to. For me that was watching Mark Spitz in 1972 when he won his seven gold medals. I was 10 then and by 11 was competing for England. At 13 I took part in my first Olympic Games.
