MIXED MARTIAL ARTS: ONE of Scotland's biggest MMA promotions has merged with a Swedish organisation in an attempt to expand its European reach.

Scottish Fight Challenge (SFC) has joined forces with Vision Fighting Championship and all future events, both in the UK and Scandinavia, will come under the VFC banner.

The first event to be held under the new promotion will be 'VFC3: Uprising' at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall on Saturday, April 28. The event, originally branded as SFC6, will see Scotsman James Doolan take on Swede David Haggstrom for the new VFC bantamweight title.

Also on the card is a flyweight title fight between Glasgow-based Brian Hyslop and Declan Williams from Manchester.

Under the new agreement, SFC lightweight champion, Greenock's Bobby McVitie, is automatically named holder of the VFC lightweight belt.

His next opponent will be decided by a number one contender bout at VFC3 between Adam Stevenson and Alan McCauley.

SFC featherweight champ Martin Svensson and welterweight title holder Jonatan Westin are now holders of the equivalent VFC belts.

VFC promoter Chris Crowe said: "We've always had Swedish guys on SFC shows and the relationship has grown over the years.

"With the two Swedes Svensson and Westin winning title belts at SFC5, the promotion has really blown up over in Sweden.

"It made sense to hook up with our friends at Vision and form one big European promotion."

After VFC3, the promotion will hold an event in Karlstad, Sweden in May and three more shows, one in Scotland, before the end of the year.
