‘Playing closer to home is a big thing’

IN a country where football is king, it seems inconceivable that any youngster who has ever graced a muddy football park on a dreich winter's night would pass up the chance of playing the beautiful game professionally.

As a 12-year-old, Adam Walker had an important choice to make. He had the world – or Kirkcaldy at least – at his feet when Raith Rovers came calling. An opportunity to be a footballer many would jump at. However, Walker’s heart, and the best of his talent, lay elsewhere.
