Sailing: Wind disrupts Silvers Scottish Series

The wind was the winner on the third day of the Silvers Marine Scottish Series, proving so tricky that, despite the persistence of the race officials, only one race could be completed.

Scotland's Commodore's Cup team boats are all competitive and the outcome of IRC Class 1 is too close to call going into the final day. Steve Cowie's Zephyr and Jamie McGarry and Colin Moore's Eala of Rhu are tied on 10 points, and only one point adrift is Rod Stuart's Aurora. Nor can Jonathan Anderson and Murray Findlay's Roxstar be discounted, just three points behind.

The battle in IRC Class 2 is between John Corson in Salamander XXI and Robert McConnell's Fools Gold, with only two points separating the pair. Craig Latimer's Wildebeest IV won yesterday's race and hold a five-point lead in IRC Class 4 over Tim Ellis in TM Racing and J Dryburgh and R Pilcher in TJIG IV.

In the Sigma 33s, Donald McLaren's Sigmatic heads the pack with Harold Hood's Odyssey II, who won yesterday, in second place a point ahead of Griogair Whyte's Close Encounters. Red Hot Poker has a six-point cushion over the pack in the Sonatas class and the real battle is between Mark Taylor's Saraband and Mark Bradshaw's Mostly Harmless who are tied on 20 points. CYCA Classes 5, 6, 8 and 9 contested the Malin Waters Round Inchmarnock Race and Ian Macdonald and Significant won in CYCA 5 from Richard Shellcock and Thrust and Brian Robertson in Celtic Spirit. Line honours went to Sir Arnold Clark's Drum, who looked magnificent with her spinnaker up.
