Newtonmore are Orion Premiership champions for the fourth year in a row after a 3-1 win over Kinlochshiel at Kirkton, but celebrations are on hold as the Badenoch club begin a week of intense preparation for Saturday's Camanachd Cup final against Kyles at An Aird.

With Kinlochshiel still under threat of relegation this was never going to be a stroll for the reigning champions, but their ever reliable forward trio of Danny MacRae, Glen MacKintosh and Fraser MacKintosh came up with the goods when it mattered.

MacRae and Glen MacKintosh put them two ahead in the opening 15 minutes before Duncan MacRae responded for the Wester Ross side. Fraser MacKintosh completed the scoring three minutes before the break.

Meanwhile, 45 miles along the A87, Newtonmore's reserve side added the North Division Two title trophy to the Eilan trophy cabinet after a 6-0 win over Glengarry.

With Newtonmore bagging two trophies, Glasgow Mid Argyll were hoping to go one better by grabbing three major prizes.

The city club's ladies were looking for a double success at Newtonmore but the day started badly when they lost 4-0 to Strathglass in the final of the Marine Harvest Challenge Cup.

In the day's main event, the Valerie Fraser Cup, the Glasgow side were clear favourites but stumbled badly, losing 3 -1 to local side Badenoch and Strathspey.

There was more than a little consolation when their senior men's side lifted the South Division One title with a stirring 3-2 win over Bute in a championship showdown in Rothesay.

Goals from Andy Mathie,Euan Forsyth and Angus MacKintosh saw off the islanders' challenge.
