MIXED MARTIAL ARTS: FIFE fighter Stevie Ray faces an anxious wait by the phone to find out whether he has made it onto the cast of the next season of the UFC's reality TV show.

Ray jetted to Las Vegas for the open tryouts for season 15 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) and sailed through the striking and grappling skills tests before being interviewed by UFC executives.

TUF season 15 will see up-and-coming lightweight and welterweight MMA fighters live, train and fight at the UFC's camp in Vegas, with the overall winner in each weight class being awarded a six-figure contract with the UFC.

Back home after his Vegas experience, Ray said: "I dominated my opponent in the grappling test. And in the striking test, Joe Silva (UFC matchmaker) stopped me within a minute and said he'd seen enough.

"That got me through to the interview stage and as I was leaving the guy said it has been a fantastic interview.

"I hope I've done enough to make it onto the show."

Hoping to be the first Scot to make it into the TUF house, Ray turned up for the trials with a Saltire dyed into his hair.

He was one of 200 welterweights at the trials, with around half of those making it to the interview stage.

The final contestants are chosen once UFC president Dana White has reviewed the interview tapes.

UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and number one contender Urijah Faber have been confirmed as rival coaches for TUF season 15, with the first episode due to air in early March.
