Bruce Croall will launch his bid for a seventh successive win when the Meadowbank National Track League starts this evening while Charline Joiner, the Commonwealth Games medallist, defends the women's title, writes Colin Renton.

The competition was delayed by a week after event organisers failed to reach an agreement with Edinburgh Council, the Meadowbank Velodrome's owners, over the upkeep of the facility. That issue has now been resolved, and a partnership will take charge of maintenance.
