SCOTLAND 0 WALES 1

Another disappointing day for Scotland coach Gordon Shepherd as he watched his charges go down 1-0 to Wales in the second test match at Glasgow Green, the Welsh now go two up in the three match series.

This was not the result, or indeed the performance, Shepherd was looking for as he prepares his squad for the World League semi-final in Brussels next month.

The scoreline might in fact have been worse but for two penalty saves by Scottish goalkeeper Amy Gibson who was returning to international duty after an absence of two years.

The Scots only chance in the first quarter came from a penetrating run by Millie Brown, she drove into the circle but her high shot was batted away by the goalkeeper.

The home side had a lot of pressure before the interval but the only chances fell to Kareena Cuthbert whose shot was blocked at a penalty corner, then a bouncing ball into the circle was missed by Heather Lang.

Despite all the possession it was Wales who should have taken the lead in the third quarter but Joanne Westwood`s effort from the spot was easily blocked by Gibson.

Into the final quarter a promising move was started by Heather Howie but Sarah Robeertson eventual shot went wide of the target.

But it was Wales who got their noses in front at a set piece, Tina Evans seemed to have plenty of time to fire a low shot into the net.

The Scots then survived a further scare but again Gibson made a spectacular save to keep out Leah Wilkinson`s spot effort.

With Gibson now replaced by an additional outfield player the Scots pressed for the equaliser, a chance emerged when the ball was switched back to Robertson at a penalty corner but the Edinburgh University striker failed to make full contact with the ball.
