Sochi medallist Tom Brewster and his team mates Duncan Menzies, fellow Olympic silver medallist Scott Andrews and Alasdair Schreiber were one of three British Curling teams who made it to the knock out stages of the tournament before Brewster’s rink eliminated his domestic rivals. Defeating Team Mouat 7-2 in their play-off, they then went on to beat Greg Drummond’sTeam Stirling Gin 4-1 in the quarter finals.
Their 7-4 semi final win against Aaron Sluchinski’s team set up a tightly fought final against another local rink Team Balderston, with Brewster’s men levelling the scores at the fourth end and again at the eighth to take the game into extra end territory. However a single for the Alberta based rink saw them lift the title, but skip Tom Brewster felt the team he set up at the start of this season has made good progress.
“We have had a great two weeks. The team has progressed a lot from the start of season. We lost a very tight game in the final but we’re still very happy with our weekend and we are heading home now for some training before Dumfries in late December,” he said.
“We are a little disappointed we didn’t win the final but we had a good run. Penticton was a great spiel too and really happy with qualifying there with a tight loss to (former world champions) Team Koe.”
Elsewhere, British Curling’s Team Fleming, Team Jackson and Team Hamilton failed to progress from the round robin stage of the International ZO Women’s Tournament in Wetzikon. Teams Fleming and Jackson both finished on two wins and two losses whilst Team Hamilton won one match and suffered four losses in their pool.
