THE Scotland women’s hockey team face Ireland this evening at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre in the first of three matches in the Celtic Series.

This will be the Scots first competitive appearance since the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast where they finished in seventh position.

This evening’s match will be quickly followed by a further two matches, on Saturday and Sunday, also at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre, and will provide a stiff test for the Scots.

Ireland are ranked two places above Scotland in the world rankings, with the Irish team in sixteenth place compared to the Scots placing of eighteenth.

The Scottish team will be spearheaded by Kaz Cuthbert of Western Wildcats, who captained the Scots in Gold Coast, while also making an appearance over the three match series is GB squad member, Amy Costello.

The Celtic Series is part of the Tartan Trilogy, which will see Scotland women play Ireland over the next few days before they take on Italy in June, also in a best of three contest, before Scotland men face USA in the last series of the trilogy in July.

These matches are the beginning of the Scottish women’s team build-up to their next major championships appearance, the Hockey Series Finals in May of next year and then EuroHockey Championship II in Glasgow in August 2019.
