SCOTLAND must finish their chances better in the second Test against Japan, says Sean Maitland.

Vern Cotter's team won last Saturday's opening encounter 26-13, but the performance in Toyota was far from convincing.

A penalty try was awarded and WP Nel crossed the whitewash while Japan had two players in the sin bin, with the Scots having Greig Laidlaw's boot to thank for the remaining points.

Maitland has targeted a more clinical showing from the Scots in Tokyo this Saturday, when the team will wrap up their summer tour under the gaze of the Japanese emperor. The Herald:

"This time we have to finish the chances we get," said the Saracens wing.

"Hopefully it will be easier conditions to play rugby in. I don't know what the weather will be like but I heard the forecast is that it could be raining - that will have an effect on the game.

"With the emperor there, it will provide a lot of motivation for them - but we can improve.

"It is good being back in the mix after the Six Nations. It is good being around the boys again. When Vern names the team, I hope I get another crack."

"It has been a long season but that also means guys should be match fit," he said.

"One of the boys ran 11 kilometres (in the first Test) which is a lot compared to a standard game back in the UK.

"I had a few weeks off and coming off the bench it is always a bit tougher trying to find your second wind.

"We have not trained for that long and there is only one more day of training before the match so the boys are pretty fresh."
