Ruaridh Jackson: Moved to fly-half at half time but was no better than Peter Horne at getting the backs moving as the Fijians closed him down fast. Did get his first Test try but failed to impose himself 5

Damien Hoyland: Absolutely hammered on two separate occasions and clattered heavily a few more. Brave with the ball but his defence was badly exposed several times 5

Nick Grigg: Thoroughly enjoyed winning his first cap but that was about all he will have enjoyed. Nothing went right for him as he also found the Fijian tacklers hard to beat 5

Duncan Taylor: Ran hard while he was on the field but looked as though he was carrying his injury for a while before he went off. Reliable without adding much inspiration 6

Tim Visser: Another who was caught out by the physicality of his opposite number. Did pose a threat when he had the ball but could not find a way to get hold of enough of it 6The Herald:

Peter Horne: A disappointing game. This was his chance to establish himself as deputy to Finn Russell but he found it impossible to create anything, though at least he was brave in defence 5

Henry Pyrgos: Part of the problem for Scotland as he struggled to get pace in tricky conditions and could not find the creativity that has marked out Ali Price’s rise 5

Alex Allan: Solid enough in the set-piece but was expected to dominate. Included partly for his work in the loose, but was shut out of that by the physicality of the opposition 5

Ross Ford: A game to remember as he took the Scottish caps record with his 110th to add to his Lions appearance. Can be happy with his performance but a match to forget 7

WP Nel: Still does not look fully fit after his long lay-off. Did not get much out of the scrum and would have expected to get more work in the open before going off early 5

Tim Swinson: Worked hard and did his bit to keep Scotland in the match, moving to the back row late on. Matched the physicality of the Fijians but it was hard going 7

Jonny Gray: Still has that great work rate and used this match to distribute more than he has in the past, but paled in comparison with Leone Nakarawa, his opposite number 6

John Barclay: Controversial decisions to go for the touchline when there were points to be harvested. Worked hard but had suffered a back problem and was not as effective as he can be 6

John Hardie: Short of game time and looked it. Carried hard but made little ground and could not match the ferocity of the Fijian tackling. Another who went off early 5

Josh Strauss: One of the Scots to make an impact with his ball carrying, usually making ground when he did, but loses marks for a silly sin-bin when he tackled Nakarawa late 5

Replacements:

Fraser Brown for Ford (50): His first Test try was some consolation but he still misses line-out throws under pressure 5

Gordon Reid for Allan (41): Came on at half-time, but could do nothing to boost the Scots scrum 5

Zander Fagerson (for Dell, 50): Eventually got the measure of his opposition prop, but by then it was far too late 5

Ben Toolis (for Strauss, 68): A late replacement for Straus, improved the line-out but again, it was too late 6

Hamish Watson (for Hardie, 50): Tried hard but could not find stop the Fijian back row winning turnovers 5

Ryan Wilson (for Barclay, 58): Another late replacement. Did not show up much 6

Ali Price (for Pyrgos, 63): Tried to raise pace of the game when he came on but Fiji had his measure 6

Greig Tonks (for Taylor, 41): Made a howler of getting back for one kick but apart from that was reasonably secure 6
