Edinburgh survived a second-half comeback from the Dragons to clinch another useful bonus point win as they continue to build their play-off challenge during the Six Nations.

A good start and a good finish was enough to claim the spoils, which was thoroughly deserved despite a wobble midway through the second half.

Apart from that period, Edinburgh dominated possession on a bitterly cold evening in Ebbw Vale as the Dragons took this game on the road in their region.

Unfamiliar surroundings from an Edinburgh team which will find Myreside a little more palatial after this. They settled well, working their way over the line but unable to get the ball down for the try and having to settle for three points from Sam Hidalgo-Clyne.

Better was to follow from a driving lineout as hooker Neil Cochrane was driven easily to the line for the try, converted by Hidalgo-Clyne.

At that stage it was one way traffic and if anything Edinburgh would have been disappointed with a 10 point lead at half-time.

They extended that early in the second half when centre Chris Dean burst through the middle.

Second row Rynard Landman got both tries, the first from a driving lineout and the second in support of a break by scrum half Charlie Davies around the fringes and through the middle.

Edinburgh nerves were settled when replacement outside half Duncan Weir finished off an excellent

move to get his team's third try.

They then finished off in fine style getting the bonus point try as a carbon copy of the first from a lineout drive, replacement hooker Cameron Fenton getting the try this time.

Coach Richard Cockerill was delighted: “I was really pleased with the win, that is three good wins in three weeks for us.

“We put some pressure on Ulster to win tomorrow and keep battled away to see if we can stay in the play-off spot.

“We have to learn to keep playing, we did not expect the Dragons to die and go away because they have never done that in the season so far.

“Once we have got our foot on their throat we need to learn to go in for the kill and we did not do that tonight until they had got themselves back in the game, but I am delighted with the result and I felt we were the better team, played the more positive rugby and in the end got the result.”
