Edinburgh Accies recorded their fourth BT Premiership win of the season yesterday to climb off the bottom of the table on points difference.

In windy and snowy conditions, they defeated second-placed Ayr 11-8 at Raeburn Place.

The sides went in at the break tied 3-3, Callum Ramm and Ross Curle both kicking penalties.

Ayr went ahead through a Rob McAlpine try, but Accies hit back with another Ramm penalty before Ruairidh Young scored the winning try.

Heriot's are still top after a 36-3 win over Boroughmuir at Meggetland. The Goldenacre men played some great rugby and showed good hands despite the conditions.

Tries for the visitors - who have an eight-point advantage at the summit after Ayr's loss - came from Charlie Simpson, Jason Hill, Harry Boisseau and Russell Nimmo.

Graham Wilson kicked four penalties and two conversions and to get a bonus point really pleased head coach Phil Smith.

Boroughmuir could only muster a Chris Laidlaw penalty and are bottom of the table with eight matches still to play.

Gala recorded their first league victory since October when they held on to win 21-16 against Stirling County at Bridgehaugh, taking revenge for last week's BT Cup defeat.

The Maroons have been on a torrid run and started the day in the fourth and final play-off spot level on points with County.

John Brogan's try gave the home side the lead and Ruaridh Leishman made it 10-0 with a second. Just before the half-hour mark Gala fought back to go 12-10 ahead with the help of tries from Keith Young and Grant Shiells. Ewan Scott added a penalty to make it 15-10 at the interval.

Scott and Joff Hope kicked penalties for their respective sides after the break before Scott's third of the day put Gala eight points clear with eight minutes to go.

County scored a late penalty through Hope, but Gala held on.

The matches between Currie and Melrose and Hawick and Glasgow Hawks were postponed due to the poor weather sweeping the country.
