Al Kellock returns to the Glasgow Warriors starting XV against Scarlets in Llanelli tonight as they resume their Guinness Pro12 campaign after a three-week lay-off.

Warriors' last outing was a 17-9 win against Benetton Treviso on November 1, their sixth victory in seven PRO12 outings this season. With the leaders Ospreys facing a tricky away game against third-place Ulster, a win in Wales could thrust Gregor Townsend's side back to the top of the table.

"This game is an extremely important one for the club, especially at this stage of the season," said the Glasgow head coach. "There is a real hunger and desire within the squad to perform well down in Wales.

"The players have worked really hard this week and are looking forward to what will be a big test for the squad. Last week there was emphasis on conditioning and physicality in training, culminating in a practice match against the Scotland sevens and club players, which was a valuable exercise."

Zander Fagerson, the 18-year-old prop who has impressed as a replacement in three appearances off the bench this season - bringing an invitation to train with the Scotland squad - makes his first start for Warriors. Ali Price also makes his debut for the Warriors at scrum-half.

Ryan Wilson makes only his second appearance of the season, turning out at No.8 and forcing Josh Strauss to move to the blindside flank. In the front row, Alex Allan will make his first start since early October.

Glenn Bryce, brother of hooker Kevin, is another who could make a first appearance for the club after being named on the bench in Wales.

With so many players absent on Scotland duty, there is an unfamiliar look to the Glasgow backline. Richie Vernon and James Downey make up the centre partnership, while Lee Jones and Rory Hughes are the two wingers. Pete Horne will be at fly-half. Scarlets, seventh in the table, will be captained by the former Glasgow favourite John Barclay, with Steven Shingler, controversially chosen by Scotland two years ago and then dumped when ruled ineligible, will be at fly-half.

n Matt Scott is on course to make his comeback from injury after more than six months out when Edinburgh return to Guinness PRO12 action against Cardiff Blues on Sunday, writes Simon Morgan.

The centre has not played since he dislocated his shoulder against Leinster in May. Since then the 24-year-old, who has 21 caps, has missed nine club matches and seven Scotland matches.

"It is great to have Matty back," said Alan Solomons, Edinburgh's coach who names his squad today. "It has been a frustrating for him."
