Cardiff Blues attack coach Paul John believes Glasgow Warriors are almost the "complete" side as he gets his charges ready to try and cause an upset at Scotstoun tomorrow night.
The Blues have had a pretty torrid season in the Guinness PRO12 to date, winning just six of 18 matches to sit in 10th place, while the Warriors are top of the table and are odds on to make the play-offs once again.
Last weekend the Welsh outfit's European campaign also came to a halt when they lost out 25-21 to the Dragons in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup.
As a result the Warriors will start as favourites in the league match between the two tomorrow and John said: "Glasgow are a good offloading side, they are a complete side in many ways, and we've got to control the ball better than we did last weekend.
"We won last year at Glasgow in Europe and we have got absolutely nothing to lose tomorrow night that is for sure.
"We want to play to a game plan, execute well and perform to the best of our ability.
"We've got to go to Scotstoun and play with passion. If we do that we will give Glasgow a good game.
"The guys are a bit battered from last weekend, both mentally and physically. The disappointment and frustration has not gone away.
"Looking back at the Dragons match we played really well for 30 minutes and put ourselves in a good position and had opportunities we didn't take in the last part of the first half when we rushed things.
"In the second half we didn't get a foothold at all and our lineouts went astray, we missed kicks to touch and a few kicks got charged down. All those things meant we couldn't get into the game and lost it eventually."
John and defence coach Dale McIntosh are set to name their squad for the Warriors match at lunchtime today and they have a doubt over prop Gethin Jenkins.
The Wales and British & Irish Lions player was forced off at half-time last weekend against the Dragons and John said: "Gethin has got a calf strain, but it is not as bad as we thought. He hasn't trained this week so is a doubt for the match, but he is keen to play a few more games for us yet this season."
Meanwhile, Blues centre Tom Isaacs is wary of the quality in the Warriors backline.
"We expect a tough encounter and they have a lot of international representation in their squad, especially in the backs," he stated.
"As a team have to watch out for their playmakers and shut them down quickly."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
