Here are the match ratings for the British and Irish Lions squad following their 14-12 defeat to Brumbies.
ROB KEARNEY: The Brumbies threw everything at the Lions and Kearney was among those to endure a difficult evening. 6
CHRISTIAN WADE: Tried to make something happen and his eagerness to be involved was encouraging, but was swimming against the tide. 6
BRAD BARRITT: Would not have known he was playing had his name not been on the team sheet, but the match was hardly accommodating to outside backs. 5
BILLY TWELVETREES: Not the Lions debut he will have envisaged as he was clattered relentlessly due to the stream of slow ball he received. 5
SHANE WILLIAMS: The glorious Lions cameo failed to materialise with the veteran Welsh wing hardly touching the ball. 5
STUART HOGG: A full-back playing at fly-half and looked exactly that, failing to provide any structure in his worst performance of the tour. 5
BEN YOUNGS: Tough night operating behind a pack that was subdued far too easily by a Brumbies eight missing their best players. 6
RYAN GRANT: Showing an enormous bruise around his left eye, lost his discipline in the second half when tangling with a Wallaby prop. 4
RORY BEST: Line out throwing was improved, but some still went astray. Full of honest endeavour, but will not break into the Test team. 5
MATT STEVENS: The Lions scrum marched forward as soon as he was replaced by Dan Cole, further evidence that Stevens has become a weak link at the scrum. 4
IAN EVANS: Such a strong performer for Wales this season, but this tour has been a disappointment. Another ordinary match within a poor tight five. 5
RICHIE GRAY: Enormous appetite for work and threw himself into everything, but the end result was disappointing - sums up his tour. 4
SEAN O'BRIEN: Comfortably his worst performance of an otherwise fine tour, but was still one of the Lions' better players. 6
JUSTIN TIPURIC: Thrives in an open, expansive game where his skills have the greatest impact, so this scrappy encounter was not to his liking. 5
TOBY FALETAU: Grew in prominence in the second half, but the Lions could have done with greater presence from their number eight earlier on. 6
REPLACEMENTS -
RICHARD HIBBARD: Replaced Best but made little impact. 4
ALEX CORBISIERO: Took a big hit early on and wilted thereafter. 5
DAN COLE: The scrum improved no end when he came on. 6
GEOFF PARLING: Arrived too late to make any real difference. 5
DAN LYDIATE: Another who was thrown into the fray too late. 5
CONOR MURRAY: Mixed bag of quality touches and errors. 4
OWEN FARRELL: Displayed his usual ice-cool temperament. 6
SIMON ZEBO: The Brumbies gave him little room in which to operate. 4
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
