His selection for the job means Ross Ford will claim an extraordinary place in the sport's history by becoming the first Scottish captain to lose the job after winning his previous three Test matches.
However, Ford was only appointed after his fellow Borderer was injured last February and, in very much a case of better late than never, Brown typically poked fun at himself in reflecting on how he is, in turn, denying himself a unique claim to fame.
