Ayr bounced back from last week's loss to defeat Melrose and go second in the BT Premiership.

Tries from captain Dean Kelbrick, Callum Templeton and Ross Curle, who also kicked 12 points, gave them a 27-0 lead in the first half.

Melrose grabbed two tries before the break through Nick Beavon and Neil Irvine-Hess, but they were still 27-12 down.

Soon after the interval George Hunter, who along with Melrose's George Taylor had been yellow-carded in the first half, grabbed a bonus-point try for Ayr. Graeme Dodds scored a late try for Melrose before a Curle penalty sealed things for the hosts at 35-17.

Heriot's remain top after a 30-12 victory at Netherdale against Gala.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Accies built on their first win of the season last week with a 21-15 victory at Stirling County.

At Old Anniesland Glasgow Hawks fought back from 24-14 down to draw 24-24 with Currie.

Elsewhere, Hawick put in one of their best performances of the campaign to see off Boroughmuir 36-16 at Mansfield Park. Tries for the Greens came from Wullie Blacklock, captain Rory Hutton, player-coach Nikki Walker, Lee Armstrong, John Coutts and Sean Goodfellow.

The result leaves 'Muir in second bottom spot.
