Phil Burleigh, who came off the bench to score Edinburgh's equalising try against Scarlets last week, believes his side can continue their Guinness Pro12 revival when they square up to Ulster on Friday.

Edinburgh travel to Belfast boosted by the 20-all draw at BT Murrayfield and the NewZealander is hoping for promotion to Alan Solomons' starting line-up.

"We were more physical against the Scarlets, something we had been working on very hard. There was an improvement, but we still made too many mistakes. The defence was better and hopefully we have shown that we can start winning games."

Looking ahead to the game with Ulster - who suffered a shock away defeat by Zebre at the weekend - the Scotland-qualified utility back added: "We need to improve on the finer things and keep our composure at the right times. We put ourselves in the right situation in the second half against Scarlets and it was unfortunate we couldn't get over the line in the end, but it will stand us in good stead for Belfast. The guys have worked hard to get the spirits up and we aim to take another step forward."

Edinburgh winger Damien Hoyland and Edinburgh Accies full-back Nyle Godsmark will make their Scotland World Series Sevens debut in the Gold Coast tournament on October 11 and 12. The speedy Glasgow winger Lee Jones returns to the side for the first time since the Commonwealth Games in July, while his team-mate Rory Hughes, also a winger, will win his third IRB circuit cap in the opening round of the season in Australia. The Scots face the host nation, Fiji and Portugal in their group.
