Captain Kellock plotting course under new Warriors coach

Al Kellock has pledged to do all in his power to maintain the culture generated by outgoing head coach Sean Lineen after he and his fellow Glasgow Warriors battled to the last before exiting the RaboDirect PRO12 title race.

The captain expressed great pride in his team's efforts throughout the campaign and the way they took the game to European champions Leinster in Dublin on Saturday evening as they tried to force their way into the PRO12 Grand Final.

"This is a great club to be involved in. I truly believe that. I couldn't have more passion or more pride for the effort that's been put in this season," said Kellock, following his side's 19-15 defeat."Sean told us how proud he's been to work with us and he's enjoyed it, then I spoke and said that Gary [Mercer, the defence coach], Sean, all the guys moving on, their effort has been unbelievable to build us to the stage where we're competing with the best team in Europe and pushing hard every team we play. "Sean's been brilliant and has been a massive part of my career. He brought me here and I've been his captain for six years, but we've got to make sure the momentum we've built over this season is used to have another, even better, season next year."Lineen is joined in leaving by Mercer, as well as leading players including Richie Gray, Johnnie Beattie and Freddie Aramburu, who were all involved on Saturday. Kellock knows that change is inevitable when Gregor Townsend takes charge."He'll be different to Sean, but I've every faith that he'll be good," he said of the new head coach. "I believe that on the first day of next season we'll have an even better squad which means that we've got to be pushing to better what we've done. Gregor coming in doesn't detract from Sean, it doesn't detract from what Sean's done. Sean's been outstanding for Glasgow and he leaves it in a great position. Now it's up to Gregor to come in and stamp his authority. It's up to the senior players to help him with that as well. It has to be a positive thing."
