Edinburgh A 27

Glasgow Warriors A 10

Stuart McInally, Simon Berghan and Damien Hoyland were particularly impressive as Edinburgh proved too strong for their Glasgow Warriors counterparts in last night's warm-up for the forthcoming 1872 Cup meetings, writes Gary Heatly.

Mike Cusack, returning after long-term injury and illness, played 40 minutes and Al Kellock 30 minutes for Warriors.

Edinburgh's tries were scored by Scotland Sevens man Hoyland (2), Tom Brown and Jason Hill while the New Zealander Jade Te Rure, who is on trial with the club, kicked seven points. Rory Hughes and James Eddie scored Glasgow's tries on a night when not much went right for them as Edinburgh's forwards dominated.

Steve Scott, Edinburgh's assistant coach, said: "I thought the boys did well and really took the match to Glasgow. Matches like this are all about putting your hand up for selection and certainly a few of the guys have done well with Alan [Solomons] watching on.

"We also managed to get to see our two new Kiwis, Jade Te Rure and Hugh Blake, in action and they are on trial with us for a spell. Sadly Hugh got injured in the first half, but Jade looked a tidy player and in general I was pleased with the way things went."
