Alex Blair has been offered the chance to resurrect his Edinburgh rugby career after an impressive return from injury last season.

The 22-year-old stand-off was released by the pro side in December 2011 after suffering a back injury earlier that year.

Blair, brother of the former Edinburgh and Scotland captain Mike, recovered to make an impact with Edinburgh Academicals last season before turning out for Southern Districts in Australia's Shute Shield competition this summer.

Now his performances for Accies in this season's RBS Premiership have prompted an invite from Edinburgh to combine his sport science studies with the chance to train on a part-time trial basis.

Blair made only one appearance for Edinburgh before his back injury but was capped by Scotland A.

Another who will be hoping to make an impression on Edinburgh's new coach, Alan Solomons, is the Argentinian centre Joaquin Dominguez, who has joined the club on a two-week trial from the Buenos Aires side San Isidiro.

The 6ft 3in 26-year-old former age-grade internationalist arrived yesterday after passing a medical assessment and began training immediately.
