Howe of Fife caused an upset to defeat GHA in the BT Cup yesterday, with Chris Mason the star of the show for the Cupar outfit with four tries.

The BT National League Two title chasers pride themselves on their home record and after this performance it is easy to see why.

GHA have been going well in BT National League One, but they had no answers to Howe's pace and power at Duffus Park and went down 31-7. Kelso booked their quarter-final place by defeating Musselburgh 33-17 at Poynder Park.

The six BT Premiership clubs through are Stirling County, Boroughmuir, Glasgow Hawks, holders Heriot's, Hawick and Ayr. At Netherdale against Gala, County took the lead thanks to a try by Rory Hughes, which was converted by Fraser Lyle. Gala pulled an unconverted try back, but a Joff Hope penalty put County 10-5 up at the interval and in the second half they took the game away from their hosts. Tries from Jamie Bhatti and Matt Lamb put County 22-5 to the good and skipper Struan Robertson's try stretched their lead to 27-5. Further tries from Lyle and Bhatti added to a penalty by Hope finished things at 40-5.

Edinburgh Rugby prospect Magnus Bradbury scored four of Boroughmuir's 11 tries as they defeated Lasswade, from BT National League Three, 69-3 at Hawthornden.

Heriot's saw off Currie 11-10 at Malleny Park after a real tussle, while at Raeburn Place Hawick defeated Edinburgh Accies 35-27 in an entertaining tie. Ayr, who last won the cup two seasons ago, went to Laigh Bent and won 50-19 against Hamilton.
