Gilchrist may benefit from Gray misfortune

Steve Scott, the Scotland assistant coach, has said that Grant Gilchrist, the uncapped Edinburgh lock, is ready for international action and that he would have no hesitation about pitching the 22-year-old into the fray when Scotland take on France in Paris on Saturday.

Gilchrist is one of 11 players who have been added to the Scotland squad following last Saturday's 28-18 loss to Wales at Murrayfield. Realistically, most of that group have only been called in to enhance the quality of training, but a second-row opportunity has opened up due to the hamstring injury that has ruled Richie Gray out of action for the next few weeks.
