ONE hundred and twenty eight points were scored on a glorious night at Goldenacre as Heriot's and the Barbarians came together to celebrate their 125th anniversaries in style.

In the end the select team, with a number of internationalists in their line-up including former Scotland caps Gordon Ross, Bruce Douglas and Scott MacLeod, were far too strong for the hosts in Edinburgh.

The Baa Baas ran in 15 tries to Heriot's five as they won 97-31.

Former Heriot's prop and now club vice-president Iain Milne said: "It was a great night for the club, we are really chuffed with how everything went.

"Obviously the Barbarians scored a few points, but they had a good side out there and our guys are now looking forward to Saturday's BT Premiership final against Melrose."

Barbarians captain Ross said: "It was good to be back at Goldenacre where I used to play and I was just pleased to have so much pace outside of me because these guys can score tries for fun."

Namibian winger Chrysander Botha scored two early tries for the Baa Baas before Heriot's got themselves on the scoresheet in the 13th minute when centre Max Learmonth did well to poach an interception and run in from nearly 30 metres out.

Botha then completed his hat-trick before winger Colin Goudie was the next man to benefit from an interception as he went in at the corner for Heriot's.

The Baa Baas next one came for winger Joshua Adams of the Scarlets and full-back James Prichard, Botha again and Scotland cap Grayson Hart all scored before half-time.

Heriot's stalwart Jamie Syme did get one back before the break, the big second-row crashing under the posts to make it 45-19 at the interval.

At the start of the second 40 minutes the Baa Baas were in no mood to stop scoring at Scotland cap Scott MacLeod went over after being set-up by Botha.

The best try of the night then came from Heriot's.

Goudie started with the ball in his own half and after seeing a gap ran into it and a chip, chase and lovely gather later and he wa over for the score.

Before the hour mark the Barbarians scored two more tries through Gloucester centre Aled Thomas and Adams.

Heriot's replacement Chris Mulligan then got his side's final try of the match before the hosts started to tire and the flamboyant 'visitors' took full advantage.

Back-row Chris Jones went over before Adams completed his hat-trick and then replacement scrum-half Ali Price darted over.

Replacement Baa Baas Aled Summerhill and Titi Lamositele then got in on the act, but with them three points away from the three figures referee David Changleng brought a halt to proceedings.

For the Heriot's players of yesteryear this as a night to reminisce about the good old days and it was pleasing to see a crowd of 2,000 there for the big day.

The current crop of Heriot's players will have enjoyed the experience, well perhaps not being run ragged at times, but they now turn their attentions to more important matters.

On Saturday they will again run out at Goldenacre, but this time in the BT Premiership final against Melrose. That match promises to be a cracker and Heriot's will hope to have no injuries from last night.
