Heriot's captain Jack Turley believes his side are starting to get into some good form after they secured their fourth BT Premiership win on the spin with a 34-12 defeat of Boroughmuir at Goldenacre.

Last year's Scottish Cup winners are expected by many to be capable of reaching the end-of- season play-offs. They got off to a stumbling start with a loss to Glasgow Hawks, but since then they are unbeaten.

They secured a fourth try and a bonus point in the last minute and Turley said: "I was pleased with the win because Muir really stuck in and caused us problems. It was good to see Liam Steele scoring two tries and we were delighted to get the bonus point because they can be crucial.

"We still have things to work on, but if we can be more clinical, then we can get even better."

The hosts were 6-0 up early on thanks to two Graham Wilson penalties. Muir grabbed a try through Graeme Blackhall, but Steele and Turley added tries that were converted to ensure the hosts led 20-5 at the break.

Heriot's had Struan Cessford yellow carded in the second half, but Boroughmuir could not take advantage to any significant extent. In the last 10 minutes Steele and Craig Keddie scored tries for their respective sides before Wilson's late score made sure of five points for Heriot's.

At The Greenyards, Melrose saw off Currie 41-26, Austin Lockington leading the way with a hat-trick of tries.Tom Wilson (2), Murdo McAndrew and Tito Mua also touched down for Melrose.

George Horne and Brendan McGroarty scored two tries apiece as Glasgow Hawks overpowered Hawick 43-10. The other try scorers for the Old Anniesland outfit were captain Finlay Gillies, Robert Beattie and Andrew Davidson.

Gala defeated Stirling County 23-16 at Netherdale meaning, like Heriot's and Ayr, they have won four of their five matches.

The Millbrae side were given a tough test by bottom-of-the-table Edinburgh Accies, but came through 23-17.
