BT Cup holders Heriot's were given a massive scare by underdogs Howe of Fife before they eventually won their quarter-final match 33-30.

Howe of Fife are challenging for the BT National League Two title and had former Scotland Sevens player Hefin O'Hare in their backline, but they knew that taking on BT Premiership leaders Heriot's at Goldenacre would be a massive test.

The visitors shocked the Edinburgh side in the early stages when a try by Fraser Clark, converted by Dom Martin, put them ahead. The Howe then led 23-14 before Heriot's eventually edged home. They will now travel to face Hawick in the last four after the Greens beat Kelso 19-13 in a Borders derby.

Hawick started off well and built up a 19-3 lead at the interval at Poynder Park. The third of their three tries was scored by their Kiwi prop Nick McLennan, but after the break they got two players yellow-carded.

That allowed Kelso to score a try through Frankie Robson and a penalty and a conversion from Andrew Skeen but Hawick held on for the win.

The other two sides through to the semis are Glasgow Hawks and Boroughmuir. Hawks, who lost in the final to Heriot's last year, came through 22-13 against Ayr at Old Anniesland with Finlay Gillies, the former Warriors player, named man of the match.

Sep Visser, the younger brother of Scotland star Tim, bagged two tries to see Boroughmuir overcome Stirling County 25-22.
