Italian referees will not be scrutinised

David Jordan, the PRO12 tournament director, last night ruled out an inquiry into the performances of the rookie Italian referees who officiated at the Edinburgh and Glasgow matches over the weekend.

Security men escorted Matteo Liperini to the Murrayfield dressing rooms immediately after Edinburgh's defeat by the Italian side Treviso on Friday. Home supporters were not only incensed by the way he handled the contest, but also over the decision by league officials to allocate him to a match featuring a team from his homeland.
