Edinburgh Accies believe they have found the man to turn their fortunes around after a close shave with relegation from the Premiership last season.
Phil Leck, who coached the Scotland Club international side last season, has been selected after a search by the club's committee to find a replacement for Johnny Else. A former Sale Sharks A coach, Leck spent the last two years at Hawick.
Scrum-half Ryan Godsmark believes they have found the best man to right the ship - Accies won a play-off against Stewart's-Melville to retain their place in the top tier - and add some much needed grit. "He can bring a lot to the club," said the 22-year-old who was part of the team who reached the final of the Melrose sevens. "Our forwards will learn from him at both the breakdown and set piece. He can install a bit of aggression into the squad which I feel we lacked last season. We were complacent last season, but he will give us a game plan to follow. We have the players to finish in the top four in the season ahead and he can help us get there."
The club's commitment to youth development - six Accies (Philip Cringle, Chris Dean, Jamie Farndale, Alex Glashan, Ruairidh Young and Sam Pecqueur) are involved in the Scotland Under-20 squad for the Junior World Championships in New Zealand - is one of the most attractive aspects for the UKCC Level 4 coach. " It is clear to me that Accies has a structured and positive approach to the playing side of the game and the long-term development of its players and infrastructure", said Leck. "The club has a great pool of talented, young players to develop and work with. I'm excited to be joining a club with Accies' heritage and, more importantly, their heart and passion,"
