Scotland under-18 wing Robbie Nairn is to become part of the highly respected Harlequins Academy after signing for the London club, signalling that Scotland's relative success at age-grade levels over the past two seasons is now being recognised outside the homeland.

The six foot three Nairn, currently in Toulouse preparing for the opening round of the European Rugby under-18 championship against France tonight, was in sparkling form against Irish Schools last Saturday in Dundee, demonstrating his speed and power by creating the first of the Scots' two tries and them scoring the second. Moreover he attracted comment when he played for Currie earlier this season.

Nairn was also the star of the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools Cup final at BT Murrayfield in November when his brace of tries helped his side George Watson's College to lift the trophy for a third consecutive season.

Often compared to the Welsh wing George North, Nairn moved to George Watson's College from Currie Community High School for his last two years of schooling and as a sixteen year old represented Scotland under-18 last season.

"Robbie is a very talented and ambitious young player with the attitude and desire to be the best he can be. We look forward to helping him achieve his goals here at Quins." said Harlequins Academy Manager, Tony Diprose.

Scotland under-18 play the first of their three matches in the European Rugby under-18 Championship tonight at Graulhet near Toulouse where they face the host country France. In the other matches of elite division title holders England play Portugal, Ireland play Georgia and Wales are matched against Italy.
