Jenny Maxwell cannot wait to make her Scotland women's sevens debut in France this weekend, writes Gary Heatly.

The squad are in Brive for the FIRA Grand Prix tournament today and tomorrow and will compete in Pool B against Ukraine, Italy, Ireland and France on day one and Spain on day two, with further opposition to be confirmed following the results of these matches.

England, Russia, Netherlands, Portugal, Germany and Wales compete in Pool A and Scotland must finish 10th or higher at the end of this event and one to come in Marbella to retain their Grand Prix status.

Leeds Met University scrum-half Maxwell, 22, who qualifies as her father is from Dumfries, said: "I had always known about my Scottish roots and it was a good opportunity to try out for Scotland. I was lucky enough to make it into the under-20s team for matches against Finland and Hartpury College and really enjoyed that.

"We have now had a couple of training weekends as a sevens squad and I have been trying to learn from all of those around me. It is an exciting squad to be around."
