Up-and-coming Scottish batsman George Munsey has smashed an unbeaten 176 whilst on trial at English county cricket side Nottinghamshire.

The 22-year-old Mazars Grange player was in the extended Scotland squad for the World Cup earlier this year, but just missed out on selection.

Over the summer he will be hoping to push for a regular spot in the Scotland set-up and certainly scoring runs like he has done this week can only help his cause.

On Tuesday at Sleaford Cricket Club he hit a very impressive 176 not out for the Nottinghamshire second XI in a three day match against a Lincolnshire Development XI.

After opening the batting he reached his half century from 65 balls before moving on to his century from 139 balls, scoring 15 fours and two sixes.

The day before at the Notts Sports Ground he had scored 19 and then 50 in two T20 matches for the second XI against Derbyshire.

After playing for Grange in their CSL Eastern Premiership match this weekend, Munsey is set to head back south to Trent Bridge for the second part of a two week trial on Monday.

Like his club team mate Tom Sole, who is on trial at Northamptonshire this week, Munsey's spell down south came through contact made by John Blain.

Blain, the former Scotland bowler who is now Grange coach and turns out for the club's first XI, made a number of contacts in England whilst he was a player and a coach in England for a number of years.

And now he is keen to help as many young Scottish players get a foot in the door of the county game as he can.

"George is an excellent young player and I was keen for him to try and get some cricket down south and show a few people what he was all about," Blain said.

"He has obviously done well there this week and it is good to see he has got some runs under his belt. All of the young players at Grange have impressed me with their work ethic in recent weeks."
