WALES
WALES
Liam Williams A brilliant try followed by a superb take under pressure to set up North's score put him in the mood for the kind of all-action performance he will remember for a long time 9
Alex Cuthbert Generally the quietest of the Welsh backs as the game ran relentlessly to the opposite wing. Will be disappointed to have missed out on so much of the action6
Jonathan Davies Ran everything back at the Scots, cutting through almost at will and had a hand in most of the team's best moments. Deserved to be on the scoreboard himself8
Jamie Roberts After two tries it is maybe a bit harsh to suggest he did not have great game, but all he had to do was run hard, which was just what he did7
George North Dangerous and elusive all game, he ran intelligently, sought all the work he could and took his tries with aplomb. Scotland could not handle him9
Dan Biggar Kicked well enough but with the game opening the way it did, his main job was to feed the men outside him, which he did efficiently6
Mike Phillips Not really his type of game, with all the space out wide. His service slowed things down and he was one of the first to be replaced5
Gethin Jenkins A memorable afternoon for the veteran prop who broke the Welsh caps record on a day when so many other records went with it7
Ken Owens Threw well at the line-out, scrummed efficiently and did what he could to get the forwards in on the scoring action6
Rhodri Jones Won't get many easier rides than this in international rugby. With so few set-pieces to test him could relish the chance to show off in the loose6
Luke Charteris Again, not his kind of game and did not show up as well as some of his more mobile colleagues while still doing his jobs efficiently5
Alun Wyn Jones Once played regularly in the back row and it showed as he roamed around the field getting into the Scots' faces. Sent Faletau over for his try7
Dan Lydiate Ran hard and straight and was always tough to pull down, but would have expected to get into this kind of open romp more effectively6
Sam Warburton Just about everywhere on the field in support and snapping up the ball when Scotland made handling mistakes7
Taulupe Faletau A great game for the rampaging No 8 as he put on one of his best international performances. He was all over the park, chased everything and was one of Wales' best ball carriers8
Replacements: All were on early as Wales enjoyed their romp. Rhodri Williams sharpened the scrum-half position and took his try well while James Hook added vision to the overall back play. All the forwards had to do was supply the ball, which they did happily and effectively
SCOTLAND
Stuart Hogg An embarrassing afternoon for the full-back whose shameful rush of blood and red card contributed so much to Scotland's record defeat 1
Dougie Fife Had a couple of decent touches on his debut, but the Welsh heavy brigade found space all too easy to come by on his wing. Hopefully, he will be strengthened by the experience 4
Alex Dunbar Reduced to defensive chores after Hogg's sending-off shattered Scotland as an attacking force. However, the Glasgow centre gave up trying in dreadful circumstances 5
Matt Scott Probably the best of the Scotland backs - though that may not be saying a great deal. Still looked for chances even as Wales' points tally steadily mounted 6
Max Evans Had a few little breaks, but Evans is a front-foot player and opportunities were almost non-existent. An unhappy return to the starting line-up 5
Duncan Weir Was never able to get anything going and some of his kicking was terrible. The fly-half has grown during this Six Nations, but this was a step backwards 5
Greig Laidlaw Still tends to crab across a pitch and his goal-kicking has dropped below international standard. Needs to find his mojo again4
Ryan Grant Questions against his fitness as he was not remotely the force he was against France last weekend. A tough shift for the prop 4
Scott Lawson Buzzed about the place and never gave up. Reasonably sound at the line-out, although one overthrow gave Wales field position for their first try5
Geoff Cross Taken off at the interval as the Scots sought to tie up the set-piece. Can hardly be blamed for the wider malaise, though5
Richie Gray This could have been his kind of game, but things were never going to tilt his way after Hogg went off4
Jim Hamilton Tireless in adversity, the big man kept trying and made a couple of critical tackles. Had nothing to be ashamed of in Cardiff6
Ryan Wilson Another whose workrate could never be faulted. Kept trying to get things going, but it was a tough day at the office6
Kelly Brown The captain went off injured far too early in the game to have any sort of positive impact. His departure dishevelled Scotland 5
Dave Denton Another positive display by the powerhouse No 8. One of the few Scots who could hold his head high at the end 7
Replacements: The front row changes seemed to shore up the effort for a while, but Ross Ford gifted Wales a try with his first line-out throw. Duncan Taylor made a couple of nice touches, but that was about it
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
