Bottom club Currie caused the shock of the RBS Premiership season by defeating Ayr 24-15 at Malleny Park yesterday.
Currie's frustration will have been that it took them 38 minutes to get points on the board.
With Ayr's Benn Cogley in the sin-bin, Richard Snedden darted over for a try with George Horne converting.
Ayr started the second half strongly and an unconverted try in 51 minutes by Scott Sutherland put them two points behind.
Both sides then scored tries in quick succession, Ethan Pollock for the hosts and Peter McCallum for Ayr, to leave things at 14-10 heading into the final quarter.
With nine minutes to go Currie's Mike Vernal was yellowed and Nick Cox's try put Ayr 15-14 up.
Currie then earned a kickable penalty though, put over by Horne, and led 17-15 with minutes remaining.
Ayr piled on the pressure, but teenager Ruaraidh Smith intercepted in his own 22 and ran in an unconverted try to secure a win.
Ayr's slip-up in the Capital means Gala are top of the table after they won 34-15 against Aberdeen Grammar in the Granite City.
Early on Chris Auld benefited from a charge down to score a converted try, then Ewan Scott added a second and Opeta Palepoi a third to make it 21-0.
Sam Knudson got one back just before half-time and when Erlend Oag added a second after 46 minutes the hosts were just 21-12 down.
A penalty soon followed for before Gregor Mein's drop goal made it 24-15 to Gala with just five minutes remaining.
A Gary Lowrie try sealed the bonus point for Gala before another Mein drop goal as they headed down the road with victory.
Melrose are second after tries from Austin Lockington and Graeme Dodds and 16 points from the boot of Joe Helps saw them to a 26-18 win at Glasgow Hawks.
Leone Nakawara and Gus Hamilton scored Hawks' tries.
The fourth of the title challengers, Heriot's, defeated Stirling County 33-16 at Goldenacre.
The hosts scored five tries through Max Learmonth, Colin Goudie, Liam Steele, Alex Henderson and Jason Hill to see them home.
In the final game in the top flight Hawick were on top form to see off Edinburgh Accies 30-10 at Mansfield Park.
Neil Renwick led the way with a try, two penalties and two conversions for the Greens.
