IF west coast rugby were looking for a role model then Magnus Bradbury would surely fit the bill.

The powerful back row owes much to Oban Lorne RFC for introducing him to the game and developing him as a young teenager, before he joined the Glasgow Pathway and then took up a scholarship place at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh.

Bradbury, is part of the 28-strong Scotland under-20 squad training at BT Murrayfield this week ahead of the World Rugby under-20 Championship in Italy from 2-20 June, his second experience of the global championship having represented his country last year in New Zealand.

During a break from the squad's work-out on the main pitch at Murrayfield, Bradbury spoke about his expectations during what will be an exciting month in Italy. He said : "The intensity will be something. Playing five games in nineteen days is a lot. We have to manage ourselves as best we can and take rests while we can.

"We have New Zealand first up and that will mean playing against boys who have Super 15 experience. But it's a good chance for us to get into them an show people what we can really do. We've got a good bunch of boys and I think we could do something special.

"Then we have Ireland and that will be a huge game. We beat them in the Six Nations but they will be wanting to get one over us." stated Bradbury. The Scots then play their final group match against Argentina, whom the Scots have never beaten in this tournament.

"Hopefully this could be a first. We played them last year [in the last round]. They're big guys who play physical rugby." recalled Bradbury.

The side will be captained by fellow back row Jamie Ritchie but what is certain is that Bradbury will be one a several senior players in the squad providing leadership on and off the field. Oban Lorne will be proud of their prodigy.
