Still no consensus over age eligibility

discontent within a sizable section of the school community about the Scottish Rugby Union's decision to raise the eligibility age for cup participation continues to rumble on despite reassurances from Murrayfield that the change is in the interests of the game.

Many are unhappy that the decision was a fait accompli and announced to the schools as late as June. "The timing, right at the end of term, means we had little opportunity to get together any structured opposition," said one prominent school coach in Edinburgh. He also claimed that the views of a consultative committee on schools rugby had been ignored.
