Tim Visser's record-breaking run is over.

The Edinburgh and Scotland winger announced yesterday that he is headed south next season to take up a contract with Aviva Premiership powerhouse Harlequins.

Visser, who is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, has spent almost six years at Edinburgh since signing from Newcastle Falcons in the summer of 2009. The 27-year-old has scored seven tries in 18 appearances for Scotland and topped the Pro 12's try-scoring charts for the past four seasons.

"I am delighted to join a club with as much heritage as Harlequins," Visser said. "It's a dream come true and I'm looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and helping the club move forward."

Harlequins director of rugby Conor O'Shea added: "We are delighted to welcome Tim to the club. He is and always has been a finisher and with the margins between winning and losing so small, players like Tim can be the difference. He is a great man, who is really driven to succeed.

"We are looking forward to welcoming him to Harlequins next season."

Visser was named Young Player of the Season in his debut campaign for Edinburgh and picked up the Player of the Season award for the 2011/12 season. Despite being born in Holland, Visser became eligible for Scotland after fulfilling his three-year residency and announced his international debut against Fiji in June 2012 with two tries. Harlequins are currently eighth in the Aviva Premiership table following a 42-14 defeat at Saracens on Saturday.

Elsewhere Scotland play their semi final match of the European Rugby under-18 Championship tonight at Gaillac in the south west of France where they face Portugal in a game that will be crucial for the Scots to win if they are to achieve the same fifth finishing place as last year.

On paper Scotland should win comfortably. Portugal lost their opening round match to England by 85-5 while Scotland were competitive against France in their 22-10 defeat. The danger is that Portugal, whom Scotland defeated in the second round last year in Poland, could have saved their strongest players for the second round knowing that they had no chance against England whatever side they put out.

The final round of the championship is on Saturday when Scotland will face either Ireland or Wales, who meet today in the fourth semi final. The other matches today are England v France and Italy v Georgia.
