FORMER Scotland stand-off Gordon Ross is to join fellow Scottish coaches Carl Hogg and Simon Cross at Worcester Warriors next season.

Over the last couple of seasons Ross, now 37, has been cutting his coaching teeth at London Welsh where he has also been playing.

However, after being involved in Tuesday night's Heriot's-Barbarians clash it looks like he has hung up his boots for good and is to concentrate on coaching full-time.

It has been announced he is to become Worcester Warriors academy transition manager (backs) in the summer.

On his appointment Ross said: "I am absolutely delighted to be offered the opportunity to join the Worcester Warriors' coaching staff.

"I am very impressed with the infrastructure and also the ambition of the club. The club have a fantastic playing squad and I am very much looking forward to working and supporting players with the goal of seeing them progress to the first team.

"Dean Ryan and his coaching team have an excellent reputation of improving young coaches and I very much hope through hard work and determination the same will apply to me."

Worcester director of rugby Ryan said: "Gordon has illustrated a fantastic desire to become a successful coach and his season as assistant coach at London Welsh will stand him in good stead.

"Gordon enjoyed a fine playing career, during which he was an outstanding professional, so we are delighted he will join us as a coach this summer."

During his playing career Ross won 25 caps for Scotland and appeared at the 2003 Rugby World Cup. At club level he represented Heriot's Edinburgh, Leeds Tykes, Castres, Saracens and London Welsh.

Already at Sixways Stadium amongst the coaching team are Scots Hogg and Cross.

Hogg turned out for Melrose and Edinburgh among others during his playing days and won five caps for Scotland between 1992 and 1994.

Cross, the former Edinburgh Rugby captain, has made great strides in the last five years as a coach with Edinburgh Accies, Scotland under-20 and now Worcester.

Worcester are currently in the Greene King IPA English Championship and have reached the end of season play-offs.
