Accident inquiries

When someone dies in unexplained circumstances, what does the family of that person want and deserve?

They want to know, as far as can be ascertained, what happened and whether lessons can be learned to prevent such a tragedy happening in future. In England, this function falls to the coroner, an institution dating from Norman times. In Scotland such inquiries are more recent.
