A hit at last year's Fringe, the Soweto Gospel Choir look certain to replicate their success this time out. Their show is still rooted in authentic African gospel - an amalgam of traditional African and nineteenth-century missionary music - but with new songs that reflect the political and social upheaval in South Africa since the end of the apartheid era. The choir draws its members, a lively bunch of 18 to 43-year-olds, from community churches in the sprawling Soweto township and includes a four-piece rhythm section and dancers.

They have toured and sold out shows in Asia, Australia and New Zealand, attracting believers and non-believers alike with their uplifting and altogether magical performances, a vital part of which is the collection at the end for the choir's Vikani Foundation. Around (pounds) 9000 raised from last year's performances went directly towards raising Aids awareness and supporting Aids orphans in their home country. Spellbinding entertainment and all for a good cause: what's not to like?
