SPL admit Rangers could win the championship in the final Old Firm game of the season at Parkhead

Neither Rangers nor Celtic have won the championship in a derby since the notorious game in 1999, when Rangers clinched it at Parkhead amid chaotic scenes including referee Hugh Dallas being struck on the head by a coin.

An inquiry was held into the violence and public disorder surrounding that game. The SPL then announced that a series of steps would be taken to reduce the likelihood of any season’s final Old Firm match being a potential title decider.
